Crankshaft rear sealing ring, change

Crankshaft rear sealing ring, change

To remove


1. Remove the manual gearbox

Instruction: remove the manual gearbox - see Gearbox, removing an fitting, F 17

2. Remove the clutch

Instruction: remove the clutch - see Clutch - overview, F17

3. Remove the flywheel

Use 83 94 868 Flywheel locking attachment.

6x Undo the bolt


4. Remove the crankshaft rear sealing ring

Important: do not damage sealing surface

Place a receptacle underneath

Prise loose the crankshaft rear sealing ring

5. Clean the sealing service

6. Fit the crankshaft rear sealing ring

Moisten the sealing lip with grease

Place KM-235-D ( 83 96 293 Fitting tool rear crankshaft seal, Z18XE ) (1) onto the crankshaft journal

Push the sealing ring (2) onto KM-235-D ( 83 96 293 Fitting tool rear crankshaft seal, Z18XE )

Strike in the sealing ring flush - Use KM-658-1( 83 96 285 Fitting tool rear crankshaft seal, Z18XE ) (3)


7. Clean the threads.

6x Clean the threads - in the crankshaft

8. Fit the flywheel

Instruction: Use new bolts

6x Tighten the bolt - Tightening torque 35 Nm + 30° + 15° - Use 83 94 868 Flywheel locking attachment .

9. Clean the flywheel

10. Fit the clutch

Instruction: Fit the clutch - see Clutch - overview, F17

11. Fit the manual gearbox

Instruction: Fit the manual gearbox - see Gearbox, removing an fitting, F 17 .

12. Check and adjust the engine oil level.

Note the prescribed engine oil volume
