Preheating, crankcase ventilation Z19DTH

Preheating, crankcase ventilation Z19DTH

To remove

1. Remove the upper engine cover and insulation.

2. Take the cap off the expansion tank to release any pressure.

Warning

The cooling system is under pressure. Hot coolant and steam can escape.

- Open the cap slowly to release the pressure.

- Carelessness can cause eye and burn injuries

3. Remove the cable tie around the crankcase ventilation hose and the hose mountings.

4. Remove the hose clip from the hose to the turbocharger intake manifold.

5. Remove the hose from the oil trap. Hold down the plastic ring and pull up the hose and nipple.

6. Remove the hose clips and hoses from the pipe to the coolant reservoir and the nipple on the intake manifold. Certain cars have thinner hoses with screw clips, others have thicker hoses with spring clips.

7. Remove the crankcase ventilation hose complete.

To fit

1. When changing the hose to the oil trap, transfer the nipple and restrictor from the old hose to the new one. (Applies only on early M05 cars, others have integrated restrictors in the nipple.)

2. Fit the crankcase ventilation hose.

3. Fit the hoses to the nipple on the intake manifold and to the pipe on the coolant reservoir. (Tightening torque applies to hose clips on early M05 cars with narrow hose, others have spring clamps. Use spring clamps when changing hose.)

Tightening torque, screw clips 1.5 Nm (1 lbf ft)

4. Fit the hose to the oil trap.

5. Fit the hose to the turbocharger intake manifold.

6. Fit the cable tie to the metal brackets around the wiring harness and the hose.

7. Pressure test the cooling system as in Cooling system, pressure testing and check the coolant level.

8. Fit the insulation and the upper engine cover.

9. Tighten the expansion tank cap.
