Fault symptom
Thick blue smoke, the engine consumes oil and has inferior performance. The turbocharger bearings could wear out or cut.
Criteria
In certain driving conditions, the filter in the banjo screw at the oil inlet for the turbocharger is blocked. This prevents the flow of oil for the lubrication of the turbocharger bearings which could result in serious damage to the turbocharger.
It is most common at high speed and long diving distances but could also arise on other occasions.
Procedure
1.
|
When replacing the turbocharger: use a new banjo screw (part number 931 793 03).
|
2.
|
Clean the charge air cooler.
|
3.
|
Change the oil in the engine.
