Interior light is not working in auto mode |
VEHICLES CONCERNED |
Saab 9-3 Saloon/SportWagon except US and CA.
BACKGROUND |
In some cases it has seen that BCM does not give out ground for interior light when the switch is in auto mode.
The light works if the switch is moved to the "On" position.
CONDITIONS |
The BCM may not give out a ground signal and this has been found to be caused by ESD damage. Root cause for the ESD peak is the fuel filler lock motor. After replacing BCM the interior light works but may fail within a short time.
This is caused by a varistor fitted on the lock motor that has been incorrectly soldered. If the varistor is not connected correctly the fuel filler motor can give voltage peaks up to 200V which can overheat components in the BCM.
SYMPTOM DESCRIPTION |
No interior lights when open door and switch in auto mode.
ACTION |
If the fault is diagnosed to BCM not grounding the interior light the fuel filler lock motor has to be replaced at the same time as the BCM to avoid repeat repairs.
