Steering gear leakage - quantifying

VEHICLES CONCERNED

Saab 9-3.

BACKGROUND

On steering gears replaced for leakage and returned to Saab it is hard to determine the actual fault as the area of leakage has not been identified on the failed part.

ACTION

Assistance is needed in quantifying the different leakage sources so we can use our resources in the most efficient way.

Please add some information when returning steering gears under warranty.

Either just identify the leakage spot according to the picture below or cut out the picture , make a mark where the leakage was found and attach it to the gear.

Main areas of potential leakage:

1. Under the cover for the steering axle spindle.

2. 2L+2R in pic: Leakage between the steering gear housing and the steering rod. visible at either end of the bellows. Please state which side of the car concerned.

3. Leakage at any connection for the two internal pipes.

4. Leakage at the connections from the external feeder and return lines
