Noise in the MacPherson strut

Background

Certain cars have no water shield fitted and this may allow water to enter the thrust bearing and cause corrosion.

Fault symptom

Knocking noise while turning the steering wheel, or banging noise when driving on uneven roads.

Procedure


1. Remove the MacPherson strut .

2. Disassemble the MacPherson strut .

3. Replace the thrust bearing (B).


4. Reassemble the MacPherson strut .

Important

Fit the water shield (A), with the part number upwards, between the thrust bearing (B) and the dust excluder (C).


5. Fit the MacPherson strut .
