Read the instructions below then
start the fault diagnostic procedure.
Symptom: Fault indicator lamp (for further information see WIS Fault diagnosis, general)
Incorrect temperature gauge reading.
Engine Coolant System, Malfunction
Fault symptom
Fault indicator lamp (for further information see WIS Fault diagnosis, general)
Incorrect temperature gauge reading.
On-board diagnosis
Type of diagnosis:
Enable criteria:
Battery voltage must be between 11 - 16 V. |
None of the following DTCs must be detected: P0115, P0117, P0118 and P0119. |
Atmospheric pressure higher than 725 kPa (105 psi). |
Intake air temperature must exceed -6°C (21°F). |
Coolant temperature higher than -6°C (21°F). |
Coolant temperature lower than 65°C (149°F). |
If vehicle speed exceeds 140 km/h (87 mph), diagnostics will be cancelled and not restart until next driving cycle. |
Fault criteria:
When the difference between the calculated engine temperature and the average temperature sensor value is outside the interval -7°C and 30°C. The average value is calculated after 200 s. |
Dependent:
System reaction to a fault:
Fault handling:
(See section Fault handling III, "Other emission-related components and functions" for more information.) |
Diagnostic help
Diagnosis regards:
Fault in the cooling system (coolant level/thermostat). |
____________________________________ |
During a cold start, the warming of the engine is calculated according to load and engine speed. The measured value is compared with the calculated value. If the variation is too large, the cooling system is deemed to have a reduced function. |
