Raised engine oil level DTR
Saab 9-3 Diesel variants with 1.9 TTiD (DTR) engine.
High oil level and /or “time for service” displayed early.
Engine oil level is above maximum mark on dipstick.
1.
With engine at normal running temp do a measured drain of the
sump and record oil quantity drained according to measuring method.
2.
Refill engine to correct level (just below max on dipstick) with
new oil and filter.
3.
Carry out measured test of 500-1000 miles of various driving cycles
to determine if complaint is valid.
4.
Report findings to ASAC using attached report form.
5.
Once the case has been evaluated ASAC will advice on next action.
Measuring method
1.
The test takes place with the vehicle horizontal and engine at
operating temperature (engine oil temperature min. 80 °C).
2.
Drain engine oil immediately after switching off engine –
(draining time approx 15 minutes).
3.
The drained engine oil quantity is determined using a measuring
container of 5L min.
4.
With this engine oil quantity, the car should be driven according
to mileage limits above without topping up the engine oil (driver should keep
to his normal routes and driving styles).
5.
After prescribed measuring period, repeat the procedure described
above (points 1 to 2) using exactly the same time for draining engine oil.
6.
The quantity of engine oil "to much" from the measuring cylinder
is the engine oil increase with respect to the distance travelled.
The engine oil increase is calculated in the following way:
Filled engine oil quantity (l) - drained engine oil quantity (l) x 1000
= engine oil increases (l/1000 km) distance actually driven (km).
When topping up, use the same type of oil as was used for the previous
oil change.
