To remove

Warning

The cooling system is under pressure. Hot coolant and steam can escape.

- Open the cap slowly to release the pressure.

- Carelessness can cause eye and burn injuries



1. Undo the expansion tank cap and remove the upper engine cover.


2. Raise the car.

3. Undo the right-hand side of the front spoiler shield (A) and fold it down.


4. Place a receptacle under the radiator, connect a hose to the radiator and drain the coolant. Close the cock (B). Fit the spoiler shield.


5. Lower the car.

6. Undo the hose clip on the turbocharger delivery hose from the throttle body (A) and the turbocharger delivery pipe (B). Detach the hose from the turbocharger delivery pipe and move it upwards for easier access to the thermostat housing.


7. Remove the thermostat housing:

Undo the hose clips (A) and detach the hoses from the thermostat housing.


Remove the bolts (B) and lift the thermostat housing out of the cylinder head.


To fit


1. 1. Fit the thermostat housing:

Fit the thermostat housing with a new gasket and the bolts (B).

Tightening torque 25 Nm (18 lbf ft)


Attach the coolant hoses and fit the hose clips (A) on the thermostat housing.

2. Reposition and attach the turbocharger delivery hose to the turbocharger delivery pipe. Tighten the hose clips on the turbocharger delivery pipe (B) and the throttle body (A).


3. Pressure test the cooling system, see Cooling system, pressure testing .

4. Fit the upper engine cover.


5. Fill with 40 - 93 170 402 Coolant and bleed the system, see Filling and bleeding the cooling system, Z19 .
