         Note that the drive shaft universal joint gaiter is not to be removed. Only the splined joint shall be lubricated.

       | 1. | Raise the car and remove the wheel. 
 
 
         
          CV:
         
         Remove the chassis reinforcement, front subframe
         | 
     
    
   
   
    
     
      
       | 2. | Remove the lower engine cover. 
 
 | 
     
    
   
   
    
     
      
       | 3. | Remove the steering swivel member bolt, fold down the suspension arm and put a
        
         83 95 238 Wedge
        
        between the suspension arm and the anti-roll bar. 
 
 | 
     
    
   
   
    
     
      
       | 4. | Undo the brake hose from the clip as well as the ABS cable's holder. Angle the wheel diagonally for better access.

                          Use protective goggles to protect against flying splinters of metal.

       | 5. | Tap the drive shaft out from the intermediate shaft using a brass drift and mallet. 
 
 | 
     
    
   
   
    
     
      
       | 6. | Lubricate the shaft's splines using Mobil XHP 222 (blue water-resistant) for example.

       | 7. | Fit the drive shaft in the intermediate shaft's splines. Make sure that the seal to the intermediate shaft is fitted.

              Press up the pin carefully.
              |  
            | 
              The groove in the pin must be visible in the screw hole in the spindle housing.
              |  
            | 
              If the rubber gaiter is pressed down, it will not seal properly to the swivel pin.

       | 8. | Remove the wedge and connect the ball joint to the steering swivel member. Fit the bolt and nut. Torque tighten the nut. 
 Tightening torque 50 Nm (37 lbf ft)

       | 9. | Fit the brake hose in the clip as well as the ABS cable in the holder.
