| 1. | Remove the
        
         battery

| 2. | Remove the battery's air inlet pipe.   | |
| 3. | Cars with petrol engine:
        
        Press in the catch and move aside the fuse box in front of the battery. | |
| 4. | Cars with diesel engine:
        
        Press in the catch and move aside the power steering fluid reservoir.   | |
| 5. | Loosen the catches and move aside the heat shield, letting any components remain on the heat shield.   | |
| 6. | Cars with theft protection:
        
        Detach the bonnet switch from the battery cover.   | |
| 7. | Undo any wiring harness clips from the battery cover. | |
| 8. | Remove the bottom of the battery cover. | |
| 9. | Remove the cable's nut and bolt.   | |
| To fit | 
| 1. | Position the cable. Fit the cable's nut and bolt.   | |
| 2. | Fit the bottom of the battery cover, making sure the positive cable lies in the cable duct. | |
| 3. | Fit the bottom of the battery cover; use
        
         74 96 268 Thread locking adhesive
        
        . Tightening torque 24 Nm (18 lbf ft)   | |
| 4. | Cars with theft protection:
        
        Fit the bonnet switch to the battery cover. | |
| 5. | Secure wiring harness to the battery cover where necessary with a clip. | |
| 6. | Fit the heat shield.   | |
| 7. | Cars with diesel engine

        Fit the power steering fluid reservoir.   | |
| 8. | Cars with petrol engine:
        
        Fit the fuse box.   | |
| 9. | Fit the battery's air inlet pipe. | |
