| To remove | 
| 1. | Remove the
        
         battery
        
        . | |
| 2. | Detach the battery's air inlet pipe and main fuse box:   | |
| • | Detach the battery's air inlet pipe (A). | 
| • | Cars with petrol engine:
        
        Press in the catch and move aside the fuse box in front of the battery. | 
| 3. | Undo the catches (A) and move aside the heat shield, letting any components remain on the heat shield.   | |
| 4. | Remove the bottom of the battery cover:   | |
| • | Cars with theft protection:
        
        Undo the cable tie of the bonnet switch (A) from the battery cover. | 
| • | Undo any wiring harness clips (B) from the battery cover. | 
| • | Remove the screws (C) and lift out the bottom of the battery cover. | 
| To fit | 
| 1. | Fit the bottom of the battery cover:   | |
| • | Position the bottom of the battery cover. Check that the positive cable lies in the cable duct. | 
| • | Fit the screws (C) and apply
        
         74 96 268 Thread locking adhesive
        
        . Tightening torque 24 Nm (18 lbf ft) | 
| • | Cars with theft protection:
        
        Fit the bonnet switch (A) to the battery cover. | 
| • | Secure any wiring harness to the battery cover with clips (B). | 
| 2. | Fit the heat shield.   | |
| 3. | Attach the battery's air inlet pipe and main fuse box:   | |
| • | Cars with petrol engine:
        
        Fit the fuse box (B). | 
| • | Attach the battery's air inlet pipe (A). | 
| 4. | Fit the
        
         battery
