SYMPTOM DESCRIPTION

Clacking / knocking noise or vibration from the RDM unit when driving away, taking a corner at low speed. If customer reports symptoms as described then disconnect fuse no 11 or 17 from REC (power to RDM unit) and test drive again.

If the noise/vibration is gone then continue with action below.

ACTION

Note: It is very important to observe the highest cleanliness when working with the torque coupling. Contamination can seriously disrupt the operation of the coupling function and longevity of components.

1. Lift the car.

2. Remove the level plug.

3. Suck out as much oil as possible from the oil level plug, refill the same amount of oil up to the level plug, test drive the car.

If knocking noise still exist, go to step 4.

4. Remove the rear exhaust system. See WIS info.

5. Demount the propshaft. See WIS info.

6. Remove the 4 bolts for the RDM from mountings, and lower the unit, See WIS info.

7. Remove the cover fasteners of the coupling cover (B) and drain the oil. Clean the cover.

8. Fit the cover with a new sealing and a new oil filter, P/N 20946129, note correct torque, (6 Nm) and use a cross-tightening method.

9. Remove the vent hose and nipple (A. Picture 1) Using clean funnel or alternatively a clean syringe. Connect a plastic tube 5x8 mm through hole.

Refill with 350 ml of oil through the hole.

10. Fit ventilation nipple (A) and hose.

11. Refit propshaft and exhaust system, USE NEW BOLTS and thread lock, See WIS info.

13. Let the engine idle for 60 seconds for the oil to be distributed. Turn off the engine.

14. Lift the car.

15. Remove the level plug (A)

16. Check oil level and top up oil if needed.

17. Fit the level plug (A).

Torque 14 Nm (10.3 lbf ft)

18. Lower the car.

19. Test drive the car, if the noise still present replace the Torque Transfer Device (TTD) unit P/N 12 824 913 ( If not available replace complete RDM unit ).
