ATF oil check on AF40, 6-speed aut

VEHICLES CONCERNED

Saab 9-3 with AF40 , 6-speed automatic transmission.

BACKGROUND

Too low ATF oil level.

SYMPTOM DESCRIPTION

Delay at shifting gears.

ACTION


1. Start engine and keep it running until point 14 <---- Note! Very Important

2. Connect Tech 2

3. Get ATF fluid to 70-80 °C. Engine still running

4. Lift vehicle (horizontally). Engine still running

5. Diesel - dismount undercover

6. Unscrew Drain plug (expected ATF drain 0,3-0,4 L)


7. Lower the vehicle.

8. Unscrew Filling plug.


9. Fill ATF fluid until approximately 0,2 L drains out from Drain plug. Wait until it stops.

10. Lift vehicle (horizontally).

11. Tighten Drain plug (2) with 8 Nm.

12. Diesel – Mount undercover.

13. Lower the vehicle.

14. Fill 0,4 L ATF fluid - Stop the engine.


15. Tighten Filling plug with new seal ring 40 Nm.

16. Check finished.
