      | 1. | Mark the big-end bearing cap fitting position (1) - remove the big-end bearing cap from the connecting rod. 
 
 
        
         Caution
        
        
        Clean the big-end journal and oil the big-end bearing shells. This is necessary so that the plastic thread does not break when removing the big-end bearing cap. Do not turn the crankshaft.

      | 2. | Lay out Plastigage (workable plastic thread) over the whole width of the big-end journal. 
 
 
        
         Tightening torque/angle tightening
        
        
        Big-end bearing cap on connecting rod - tightening torque 25 Nm + 30°.

      | 1. | Remove the big-end bearing cap again. Compare the width on the flattened plastic thread (arrow) with the scale. 
 
 | 
    
   
  
  
   
    
     
      | 2. | Permitted big-end bearing play: 0.019 to 0.071 mm.

             Do not confuse millimetres and inches on the scale when reading the value.

      | 1. | Clean and oil the big-end journal and big-end bearing shells.

      | 2. | Fit the big-end bearing cap on the connecting rod, observe the big-end bearing cap fitting position.

      | 3. | Fit the big-end bearing cap onto the connecting rod with new bolts - tightening torque 25 Nm + 30°.
