Camshaft sprocket, removing and fitting

To remove

Caution

Before removing the tooth belt: turn the crankshaft to 60° (dim I) before the TDC mark.

1. Remove the top of the tooth belt cover - see Tooth belt cover top part, removing and fitting .

2. Remove the multi-belt - see Multi-belt, removing and fitting .

3. Remove the multi-belt tensioning pulley - see Tensioning device for multi-belt, removing and fitting .

4. Remove the bottom of the tooth belt cover - see Tooth belt cover bottom part, removing and fitting .

5. Screw in the drive belt pulley bolt into the crankshaft.

6. Remove the camshaft sensor (1) from the cylinder head and put it to one side.

7. Turn the crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation to "ignition TDC for cylinder 1" (III). The marks on the camshaft sprockets must agree (I).

8. Fix the camshaft sprocket with KM-852 (83 96 319 Holder tool, fixing of camshaft sprocket Z18XE) (II).

9. Undo the bolt on the drive belt tensioning pulley (IV) and turn the eccenter adjuster in the direction of the arrow (clockwise) until the pointer (1) is close to the left-hand stop.

10. Remove the tooth belt and put it to one side.

11. Undo the retaining bolts (3) from the KM-6347 (1). Insert KM-6347 in combination with KM-956-1 (2) into the camshaft sprocket - check they are positioned correctly.

Note

The grooves on KM-6347 83 95 360 Holding tool, crankshaft pulley (arrows) must engage in the camshaft sprocket.

12. Turn KM-6347 or 83 95 360 Holding tool, crankshaft pulley in the direction of the arrow and tighten the retaining bolts. Undo the retaining bolts from the camshaft sprocket (4). Undo the retaining bolts from KM-6347 and remove KM-6347. Remove the camshaft sprocket retaining bolt and remove the camshaft sprocket.

Note

The camshaft gear with cylinder identification is fitted on the exhaust camshaft.

To fit

1. Fit the camshaft sprockets onto the camshaft using new bolts and valve timing marks. Check that the camshaft guide pin engages in the hole in the camshaft sprocket.

2. Fit the camshaft retaining bolt - do not tighten.

3. Insert KM-6347 in combination with KM-956-1 into the camshaft sprocket - check they are positioned correctly.

Note

The groove on KM-6347 (arrows) must engage in the camshaft sprocket.

4. Turn KM-6347 and tighten the retaining bolts.

5. Tighten the camshaft retaining bolt - tightening torque 50 Nm + 60° + 15°.

6. Undo the retaining bolts from KM-6347 and remove KM-6347.

7. Put on the tooth belt - check that the pull side (I) is taut.

Caution

8. Note the valve timing marks!

9. Adjust the tooth belt tension - see Tooth belt tension, setting .

10. Fit the camshaft sensor to the cylinder head - fit the bolts with locking compound (red) - tightening torque 8 Nm.

11. Fit the camshaft cover - see Camshaft cover, removing and fitting .

12. Fit the ignition module - see Ignition module, removing and fitting .

13. Fit the tooth belt - see Tooth belt, removing and fitting .

14. Fit the bottom of the tooth belt cover - see Tooth belt cover bottom part, removing and fitting .

15. Fit the tensioning device for the multi-belt - see Tensioning device for multi-belt, removing and fitting .

16. Fit the top of the tooth belt cover - see Tooth belt cover top part, removing and fitting .
