Fuel pump, EU

Warning

The work involved in removing the fuel pump requires working with the vehicle's fuel system. The following points should therefore be heeded in conjunction with these measures:

Have a class BE fire extinguisher on hand! Be aware of the risk of sparks, i.e. in connection with electric circuits, short-circuiting, etc.

Absolutely No Smoking!

Ensure good ventilation! If there is approved ventilation for evacuating fuel fumes then this must be used.

Wear protective gloves! Prolonged exposure of the hands to fuel can cause irritation to the skin.

Wear protective goggles.


Important

Be particulary observant regardning cleanliness when working on the fuel system. Loss of function may occur due to very small particles. Prevent dirt and grime from entering the fuel system by cleaning the connections and plugging pipes and lines during disassembly. Use 82 92 948 Plugs, A/C system assembly. Keep components free from contaminants during storage.

To remove


1. Remove the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel tank, EU

2. To prevent dirt entering the fuel system, clean the outside of the tank if necessary before removing the fuel pump.

3. Detach the connector.


4. Disconnect the quick couplings of the fuel line and return line using 83 95 261 Tool, fuel line . Plug the lines with 82 92 948 Plugs, AC system, kit . Mark up the position of the fuel line and return line.

5. Remove the circlip. Turn anticlockwise. Take note of how the cable and hose couplings are routed in the fuel tank. Mark the position of the cover over the maintenance hole.

6. Carefully remove the cover from the maintenance hole. Unplug the connector from the fuel pump.


7. Remove the sealing ring.

8. Remove the fuel pump housing by pressing in the three catches and pulling the fuel pump out of the reservoir.


9. Remove the fuel hose from the pump.

10. Carefully lift up the fuel pump and place it in a receptacle.


To fit


1. If changing the fuel pump housing, transfer the wiring.

2. Connect the fuel hose to the pump.


3. Carefully lower the fuel pump into the tank.

4. Make sure the recesses in the tank connection are in line with the corresponding heels on the pump cover.

5. Fit a new sealing ring. Check that this is seated properly.


6. Plug in the connectors to the fuel level sensor and fuel pump.

7. Carefully thread the cover into the maintenance hole.

8. Fit the circlip. Turn clockwise.


9. Remove the plugs and fit the fuel line.

10. Fit the connector.

11. Fit the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel tank, EU .
