P0400 5A EDC16 - Saab 9-3/9-5 TiD |
VEHICLES CONCERNED |
Saab Saab 9-3/9-5 with Z19DT/DTH engine.
CONDITIONS |
EGR valve stuck open/closed due to soot contamination and/or corrosion. At present EGR valves are in limited supply but in the interim period an EGR cleaning method has been developed as a temporary solution. Please be aware that is method will not be released as a TSB but can avoid a situation that cars will remain off the road due to non availability of spare parts.
SYMPTOM DESCRIPTION |
Check engine light on with DTC P0400 5A EDC16 reduced engine performance. EGR-valve stuck, other DTCs and symptoms can also be present.
ACTION |
New EGR valve (PTFE sealing and modified spring) in release process.
Dismount the EGR-valve, separate the unit, electrical and valve.
Note: Mark unit for correct assembly.
Use cleaner agent (eg Forte Carb Cleaner) to clean soot from the valve.
• |
Use a drill to rotate the valve, see picture.
|
• |
Spray and clean with rotation and axial movement. Check that the
valve moves easily.
|
• |
Check the electrical unit connected to wiring harness with activating
Tech 2
|
Assemble the two units and check EGR FLOW with Tech II Check pivot arm for movement.
