Measuring piston height

Measuring

Clean the engine block sealing surface and piston measuring points.

Fit 78 40 622 Dial indicator and a suitable probe tip from 87 91 857 Probe tips onto 83 95 550 Measuring jig .

Zero the dial indicator on the cylinder head.

Measure the height of all pistons as follows:

Between points 1 and 2 or between 3 and 4. Measure from the highest point by turning the crankshaft to and fro.

To determine the type of gasket for the cylinder head, use the following table:

Piston height above cylinder block	Gasket thickness	Marking
0.020 - 0.100 mm	0.77 - 0.87 mm	without hole
0.101 - 0.200 mm	0.87 - 0.97 mm	one hole
0.201 - 0.295 mm	0.97 - 1.07 mm	two holes
