Emptying the fuel tank, 4WD

Emptying the fuel tank, 4WD

Warning

Emptying the fuel tank involves partial dismantling of the car's fuel system. The following points must therefore be observed in connection with this work:

Have a class BE fire extinguisher on hand! Be aware of the risk of sparks, i.e. in connection with electric circuits, short-circuiting, etc.

Absolutely No Smoking!

Ensure good ventilation! If there is approved ventilation for evacuating fuel fumes then this must be used.

Wear protective gloves! Prolonged exposure of the hands to fuel can cause irritation to the skin.

Wear protective goggles.

To remove

Important

Be very thorough in terms of cleanliness when working in the fuel system. Malfunctions can also occur due to very small dirt particles. Prevent dirt from entering the fuel system by cleaning the hoses and plugging the pipes and lines upon removal. Store the components so that contaminants cannot enter.

Read the instructions for the draining equipment thoroughly before use.

1. The fuel tank has no bottom plug. When performing any work that requires draining of the fuel tank, use suitable draining equipment.

2. Check the fuel level. If the tank is full, the fill pipe must be emptied with the tank draining tool to prevent fuel spill.

3. Raise the car.

4. Place a receptacle near and under the fuel tank to catch any fuel spill when the tank draining tool is connected to the fuel tank.

5. Remove the filler pipe bolt (A), the hose clip (B) and the bleeder hose quick coupling (C). Detach the filler pipe hose from the tank.

Important

Take care so that the check valve in the fuel tank is not damaged when the suction hose for the draining unit is inserted and removed.

6. Use the tank draining tool to drain the tank through the filler pipe connection.

To fit

1. Attach the filler pipe hose and tighten the hose clip (C). Fit the bleeder hose quick coupling (C) and fit the bolt (A).

2. Lower the car.
