Power steering delivery line, B284, 4WD, LHD

Important

Scrupulous cleanliness must always be observed during all work with hydraulic components.


Important

Always use wing covers when working in the engine bay.


To remove


1. Secure the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position, for example using woven tape to secure it to the dashboard.

2. Detach the pipe (A) from the air cleaner housing cover and remove the cover (B).

Important

When removing the air cleaner casing cover, be careful not to damage the brake vacuum pump sensor.



3. Unplug the mass air flow sensor connector (A).


4. Remove the secondary air pipe (B), delivery hose (C) from the turbocharge intake manifold, the crankcase ventilation pipe (D) and the turbocharge intake manifold (E) from the air cleaner housing cover and the turbocharger (E).

5. Suction the fluid out of the power steering fluid reservoir.

6. Remove the delivery line clamp (A) from the engine bracket.


7. Detach the delivery line (B) from the power steering pump using 32 025 061 Crow's foot wrench .

8. Raise the car.

9. Remove the front bumper shell .

10. Secure the radiator assembly using two 83 95 212 Straps over the radiator member.

11. Remove the right-hand air shield.

12. Remove the propeller shaft .

13. Remove the bolt (A) securing the front torque arm to the subframe.


14. Remove the bolts (B) securing the rear torque arm bracket to the subframe.


15. Position 83 95 311 Trolley lift with 83 94 801 Parent fixture and 83 96 137 Centring tool, subframe - body .


16. Remove the front parts of the wheel arch liner (A) and move it aside slightly.


17. Remove the subframe bolts (B) on both sides. Remove the stays (C) from the body.

18. Remove the steering shaft joint (A) from the steering gear.


19. Lower the subframe approx. 100 mm (4 in).

20. Place a receptacle under the car. Detach the delivery line (A) from the steering gear and plug the connection.


21. Remove the delivery line from the clips (A) on the subframe.


22. Remove the clamps (A) from the mountings on the charge air cooler.


23. Remove the delivery line.


To fit


1. Fit the delivery line and the clamps (A) to the charge air cooler.


2. Fit the delivery line in the clamps (A) on the subframe.


3. Attach the delivery line (A) to the steering gear. Use new O-rings.

Tightening torque 12 Nm (9 lbf ft)


4. Wipe away any oil spill from the subframe.

5. Raise the subframe and fit 83 96 137 Centring tool, subframe - body against the guide holes in the body. Fit the stays and tighten the bolts.

Tightening torque, subframe: 75 Nm +135° (55 lbf ft +135°)

Tightening torque, stay: 90 Nm +45° (67 lbf ft +45°)

6. Lower and remove the trolley lift. Fit the front parts of the wheel arch liner and fit the radiator hose to the holder in the subframe.

7. Fit the steering shaft joint (A) to the steering gear. Clean the threads and apply Thread locking adhesive, Loctite 242 to the threads.

Tightening torque 30 Nm (22 lbf ft)


8. Remove the straps.

9. Fit the front torque arm bolt (A).

Tightening torque: 60 Nm + 90° (50 lbf ft + 90°)


10. Fit the bolts (B) of the rear torque arm bracket.

Tightening torque, M10: 65 Nm (48 lbf ft)

Tightening torque, M12: 120 Nm (88 lbf ft)


11. Fit the propeller shaft .

12. Fit the front bumper shell .

13. Fit the right-hand air shield.

14. Fit the stays (C) to the body and the subframe bolts (B) on both sides.


15. Fit the front parts of the wheel arch liner (A).

16. Lower the car to the floor.

17. Attach the delivery line (B) to the power steering pump.


18. Fit the clamp (A) to the engine mounting.

19. Fit the turbocharger intake manifold (E) to the air cleaner housing cover and the turbocharger, the crankcase ventilation pipe (D), delivery hose (C) to the turbocharger intake manifold and the secondary air pipe (B).


20. Plug in the mass air flow sensor connector (A).

21. Fit the cover (B) and connect the pipe (A) to the air cleaner housing cover.

Important

When removing the air filter housing cover, be careful not to damage the brake vacuum sensor.



22. Fill the power steering fluid according to specification, bleed the power steering system and check for leaks.

23. Remove the tape or other means used to prevent the steering wheel from moving.
