"Time for service" shows too early in MIU |
VEHICLES CONCERNED |
Saab 9-3 MY11 with L850 PETROL ENGINES (1,8t, 2,0t & 2,0T) with VIN below B1311268 (Built date 2010-02-21).
BACKGROUND |
Saab 9-3 MY11 may be incorrectly programmed with engine service interval for ethanol (E85) engines, i.e. every 15000 km/9375miles.
CONDITIONS |
Saab 9-3 1,8t, 2,0t & 2,0T with petrol engine, "Time for service" will be illuminated to early in the MIU, depending on a faulty parameter in the SW for the engine management system. The message occurs when the mileage is lower than 15,000km/9375miles or shorter "lifetime" than 11 months.
ACTION |
Do NOT perform any service!
Update the Engine Control Module (ECM) with latest edition of the SW. After down loading of the new SW it is necessary to check and adjust the remaining oil lifetime (quality).
Read out actual value of remaining oil lifetime, dived with two (half of the value) and add 50.
The results is the new valid remaining oil life time
Example:
Remaining oil life = 26. Half of this value is 13. Add 50 to 13 = 13+50=63 - New oil life is 63
Remaining oil life = 8. Half of this value is 4. Add 50 to 4 = 4+50=54 - New oil life is 54
