Cars already delivered must be rectified in connection with a scheduled visit to the garage for service or repairs.

Saab 9-3 M09 with engine B205R (not 4WD) within Vehicle Identification Number range 91000189-91011934.

Note

Background

On some cars, the heat shield for the right silencer has not been fitted.

Symptom description

Under certain extreme driving conditions, heat damage may occur in the spare wheel compartment.



Parts required

12 791 417 Heat shield

55 563 636 Set with 10 nuts (enough for 2 cars)

90 482 479 Plastic nut

For fitting the modification identity plate:

12 785 148 Modification identity plate

Checking the modification identity plate

Before proceeding, check box A1 of the modification identity plate. From and including M04, the car's Warranty and Service Book contains the "Table of Modifications". A modification identity plate must be fitted in accordance with the section "Fitting the modification identity plate" where local directives require the marking of the car. If the box is not marked, continue as follows.

Procedure


1. Raise the car on a hoist.

2. Is a heat shield mounted on the right side?

Yes: Lower the car. No action.

No: Go to step 3.

3. Lift the exhaust system slightly with the transmission lift.

4. Loosen the five rubber mountings.

5. Lower the exhaust system. The flex part may not be bent more than 5 degrees.

6. Take off the plastic nut (A).


7. Fit the heat shield with 5 new nuts (B) and 1 new plastic nut (A).

Note

Position the plastic nut according to the diagram.



8. Raise the exhaust system.

9. Refit the five rubber mountings.

10. Remove the transmission lift.

11. Lower the car.


Marking the modification identity plate

After carrying out the procedure, mark box A1 on the modification identity plate. From and including M04, the car's Warranty and Service Book contains the "Table of Modifications". Mark the box with the number "7" if the procedure was carried out by the importer or with the number "8" if carried out by the dealer.

Fitting the modification identity plate

Note

A modification identity plate must only be fitted where local directives require the marking of the car.
