The auxiliary heater control module uses the following information

| Engine running | ON/OFF | ECM | ECM must first send the signal "engine running" for the auxiliary heater to start |
| Remaining fuel quantity | % | ECM | The fuel tank must be >12% full for the auxiliary heater to start |
| Outside temperature | °C/°F | BCM | The outside temperature must be under 8°C (46°F) for the auxiliary heater to start |
| Internal heater | °C/°F | Water temperature in heater | The water temperature in the heater must be under 80°C (176°F) for the auxiliary heater to start |
