Diagnosis and testing of oil pressure (A20NFT/LHU)

Diagnosis and testing of oil pressure (A20NFT/LHU)

1. Park the car on a level surface and let the oil run down for 2-3 minutes and measure if the oil level is low.

2. Add engine oil of the recommended grade and fill the crankcase until the oil level reaches the full level on the dipstick.

3. Run the engine and check whether the oil pressure is low or non-existent on the car's gauges or indicator lamps.

4. Listen for rattling valves or knocking noises.

5. Check for the following conditions:

Adjust the oil filter with the anti-return line and O-ring on the cylinder block side of the filter.

Oil that is thinned with humidity or unburned fuel mixtures

Incorrect oil viscosity for the expected temperature

Incorrect or malfunctioning engine oil pressure sensor

Incorrect or malfunctioning engine oil pressure gauge

Clogged oil filter

Malfunctioning oil bypass valve

6. Remove the engine oil pressure sensor or another oil plug from the engine block.

7. Fit an engine oil pressure gauge and measure the engine oil pressure.

8. Compare the measurement values with the specifications. Information is available in Engine's mechanical specifications (A20NFT/LHU) .

9. If engine oil pressure is below specifications, check the engine with regard to one or more of the following conditions:

Adjust the oil filter with the anti-return line and O-ring on the cylinder block side of the filter.

Worn or dirty oil pump

Information is available in Oil pump, A20NFT/LHU .

Screws loose, oil pump - front protection

Information is available in Oil pump, A20NFT/LHU .

Oil pump strainer loose, clogged or damaged

O-ring seal to the oil pump strainer is missing or damaged

Malfunctioning pressure control valve oil pump

Bearing play too large

Cracked, porous or narrow oilways

Oilway plugs missing or incorrectly fitted

Damaged clearance adjusters
