EN-28410 Removal tool for gaskets

For equivalent regional tools, see Special tools (A20NFT/LHU)

Reuse of gasket and application of sealant

Do not reuse gaskets unless specified otherwise.

Gaskets which can be reused are identified in the service procedure.

Do not apply sealant to any gaskets or sealing surfaces unless stated otherwise in the service information.

Separation of components

Use a rubber mallet to separate components.

Strike the parts from the side to loosen the components.

Strike near to hooks or reinforced areas to prevent the parts becoming warped.

Cleaning of gasket surfaces

Remove all gaskets and sealing material from the component using the J 28410 removal tool or equivalent.

Take care not to scratch or scrape the sealing surfaces.

No other method or technique may be used to remove sealant or gasket material from a component.

Do not use abrasive paper, sandpaper or power tools to clean the sealing surfaces.

- Such cleaning methods may damage the component's sealing surfaces.

- Abrasive paper can also generate a fine grit which the oil filter cannot remove from the oil.

- This grit can have an abrasive effect and can cause internal damage to the engine.

Assembly of components

During assembly of components, only the sealant specified in the service procedure or equivalent may be used.

Sealing surfaces must be clean and free from dirt and oil.

Special components such as the crankshaft's oil seals or valve spindle oil seals may require lubrication during assembly.

Components which require lubrication are identified in the service procedure.

When sealant is placed on a component, the quantity specified in the service procedure must be used.

Do not allow sealant to get into threaded holes as this can cause the screw not to be secured properly or cause component damage when it is tightened.

Tighten the screws to the specified torques. Do not tighten them too hard.
