Cooling system, draining and filling, A20NFT/LHU

Warning
|
The cooling system is under pressure. Hot coolant and steam can escape.
|
- Open the cap slowly to release the pressure.
|
- Carelessness can cause eye and burn injuries
|
|
|
|
|
Emptying the cooling system
|
1.
|
Open the cooling system. Undo the cap of the expansion tank for coolant.
|
2.
|
When emptying the cooling system, the drain screw (1) must be opened on the radiator.
|
Filling the cooling system
|
1.
|
Cars with air conditioning: Switch off the air conditioning.
|
2.
|
When the system has been emptied, the drain screw on the radiator must be closed.
|
3.
|
Open the cooling system. Undo the cap of the expansion tank for coolant.
|
4.
|
Connect from the quick coupling (1) on the T-coupling to the engine's supply hose.
|
5.
|
Insert a hose with a funnel (1) in the T-coupling's opening (2) and top up with coolant.
|
6.
|
Connect the bleeder hose using a quick coupling to the T-coupling on the engine's supply hose.
|
7.
|
Top up
40 - 400 131 397 Coolant
up to the "COLD" marker on the expansion tank for coolant. When the coolant has stopped dripping, top up with coolant up to the "COLD" marker (black arrows).

8.
|
Seal the cooling system. Screw on the cap of the expansion tank for coolant.

Once the heating element (in the passenger compartment) has been removed, the following additional measures have to be carried out:

Immediately after the engine has started, the accelerator pedal has to be depressed 3 times - but the engine speed must not exceed 2 500 rpm.

Start the engine and warm it up.
Warm up the engine at idle at up to 2 500 rpm until the radiator fan starts at low speed.
|
10.
|
Bleed the cooling system
Depress the accelerator pedal 3 times - but the engine speed must not exceed 2 500 rpm.
|
11.
|
Switch off the engine and leave it to cool.
|
12.
|
Check the coolant level and if necessary, top up to the "COLD" marker (black arrows).
