Engine coolant temperature sensor (202), E39
Informs the control module of current coolant temperature.
The value from the temperature sensor is used for:
-
controlling the radiator fans
-
determining injection duration for preinjection
-
determining injection duration while starter motor cranking
-
determining when closed loop should be engaged
-
correction of idle speed.
The temperature sensor is of NTC type.
202 pin no.

A
Signal
Connected to ECM pin 24(C).
B
Ground
Connected to ECM pin 8(C).
Depending on the coolant temperature, the sensor delivers a proportional voltage to the ECM control module E39 (590), pin 8(C). The sensor is powered with +5 V internally from ECM via 1.5 kΩ and is grounded to ECM pin 8(C).
