Ethanol content sensor (780), E39
Ethanol content sensor (780), E39 |
Location |
Ethanol content sensor (780), E39
The sensor is mounted on the bulkhead partition on the right hand side of the engine bay and is connected to the fuel pipe with a quick coupling before the high pressure fuel pump (801).
Main task |
To provide ECM, E39 (590) with information on the current ethanol contents is the fuel.
Type |
Flow sensor, without moving parts, with a measuring element placed in the fuel flow plus a temperature sensor and microprocessor.
The sensor measures the fuel's resistive and capacitive properties to determine the fuel ethanol content. The value is sent to ECM as a frequency-modulated signal.
Connection |
780 pin no. | Signal type | Description |
1 | Signal | Connected to ECM pin 38(A). |
2 | Ground | Connected to grounding point G1 via crimp connection J212. |
3 | Power supply | Connected to +15 from fuse 8 in the petrol engine management system fuse box (727) via crimp connection 220. |
The sensor is powered with +15 from fuse 8 in the petrol engine management system (727) via crimp connection 220 and grounded to grounding point G1 via crimp connection J212.
The sensor output signal is connected to ECM pin 38(A).
In the event of a fault on the ethanol sensor, ECM assumes a 40 percent ethanol content as a fixed substitute value.
