Lowering fuel pressure

Lowering fuel pressure

Warning

Open the fuel tank filler cap to reduce the pressure in the fuel system before performing any service work on the system to reduce the risk of personal injury.

After the pressure in the fuel system has been reduced, small amounts of fuel can leak out when working on the fuel lines, fuel injection pump or connections. To reduce the risk of personal injury, cover the components in the fuel system with a clean cloth before removing them. The cloth draws up any leaking fuel. Then place the used cloth in a suitable waste container after removal.

To remove

1. If the fuel system needs to be repaired, prevent fuel spillage by removing the fuel pump fuse. See Underhood Electrical Centre (UEC)

2. Undo the fuel filler cap to release the pressure in the fuel tank.

3. Remove the engine cover.

4. Remove the cover for the fuel rail's service port (A).

5. Wind a polishing cloth around the fuel rail's service port and depressurise (open) the test port valve using a small, flat tool.

To fit

1. Remove the polishing cloth from the service port and place it in an approved container for petrol.

2. Fit the cover for the fuel rail's service port (A).

3. Fit the engine cover.

4. Tighten the fuel filler cap.
