Air intake system, description, E39
|
The primary function of the air intake system is to supply the engine filtered air. The system uses a filter element, which is mounted in an air cleaner housing. The incoming air is directed to the throttle body via air ducts.
The secondary function of the air intake system is to damper the noise of the induction system. This is done with the help of resonators mounted on the air ducts. The mass air flow sensor (MAF) is used to measure the weight of the air supplied to the engine.
