Heated oxygen sensor (592-593), E39
Heated oxygen sensor (592-593), E39 |
Location |
Front heated oxygen sensor (592), E39, located before the front catalytic converter,
Front heated oxygen sensor (592), E39.
Rear heated oxygen sensor (593), E39, located after the front catalytic converter,
Rear heated oxygen-sensor (593), E39 .
Main task |
The heated oxygen sensors, located before and after the front catalytic converter respectively, act as a sensor for lambda control and is connected to ECM, E39 (590).
In order to work properly, the catalytic converters need a precise air/fuel blend that is regulated by the heated oxygen sensors and these need to be preheated for a quick reaction. The rear heated oxygen sensor is for both correcting the lambda control for minor faults in the front heated oxygen sensor and for setting DTCs if the catalytic converter is damaged.
Type |
Lambda control is done with a front heated oxygen sensor (592) and a rear heated oxygen sensor (593) that, besides the oxygen sensor itself, contains a pulse width modulated preheating circuit consisting of oxygen sensor heating elements (271).
The output voltage of the oxygen sensors is proportional to the oxygen content in the exhaust and will be approx. 0.9 V at the front heated oxygen sensor at Lambda <1 and approx. 0.1 V at Lambda >1.
Front heated oxygen sensor (592).
