Propeller shaft

Important

When removing/fitting the propeller shaft, special tool DT-49035 Holder, Propeller Shaft must be used to prevent the shaft from being bent or the ties from being damaged due to being bent too forcefully.

During manual handling, the propeller shaft must be lifted at the front and rear sections in order to prevent the ties from being damaged due to being bent too forcefully.



To remove


1. Remove Catalytic converter, rear, 4WD .

2. Mark out the positions of the mounts (A), use spray paint.


3. Loosen the propeller shaft (A) from the differential clutch. Hold in position with the DT-49147 Support .


4. Remove the shaft from the differential clutch, connect DT-49064 Puller to the driver's plain hole. Start by mounting and pressing out the shaft with bolt (A). If the shaft does not become loose, turn the driver a half turn, mount and continue to press with the next bolt.


5. Remove the tool.

6. Remove the mounts (A) and allow the propeller shaft to rest on the column jack and DT-49035 Holder propeller shaft .


7. Remove the front joint (A) with DT-49030 Removal tool , loosen in two steps. A wooden block between the tool and flange may be needed to completely remove the joint.


8. Lower and move away the propeller shaft.


To fit


1. Clean the threads in the differential clutch flange with a M8x1.25 tap.

2. Lift up the propeller shaft using a column jack and DT-49035 Holder propeller shaft .

3. Check the circlip and O-ring on the front joint.

4. Lubricate the splines with 90 513 210 Universal paste and fit the front joint, press in by hand until the circlip locates.

5. Fit the mounts, according to the previous markings (A).

Tightening torque: 20 Nm (14.7 lbf ft)


6. Fit the propeller shaft bolts (A) to the differential clutch, use DT-49147 Support to hold the joint. Use new bolts and Thread locking adhesive, Loctite 242 .

Tightening torque: 30 Nm (22.1 lbf ft)


7. Fit Catalytic converter, rear, 4WD .

8. Lower and move away the jack.

9. Lower the car
