The gearbox output shaft speed sensor, AF 40 (533), E39

Location

The gearbox output shaft speed sensor, AF 40 (533), E39

The sensor is mounted in the valve housing in the back of the gearbox.

Main task

To measure the rotational speed of the gearbox output shaft. This value is used by ECM, E39 (590), mainly to determine the shifting points.

Type

Magnetoresistance sensor with Hall effect. Uses a tooth wheel with 56 teeth for measurement.

1. The output shaft wheel with output speed sensor (533).

2. C2 clutch drum with input speed sensor (532).

Connection

533 pin no. Signal type Description
1 Supply voltage Connected to ECM pin 5(B)
2 Ground Connected to ECM pin 21(B).
3 Signal Connected to ECM pin 8(B).

The speed sensor is grounded to ECM, E39 (590), pin 21(B) and is powered from its pin 5(B).
