Delivery line for power steering, B207 LHD

Important

Scrupulous cleanliness must always be observed during all work with hydraulic components.


Important

Always use wing covers when working in the engine bay.


To remove


1. Lift off the battery cover and disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Clamp the return hose using 30 07 739 Hose pinch-off pliers .

3. Place a receptacle under the car and detach the delivery line from the steering gear.


4. Detach the power steering pipe from the power steering pump.


5. Undo the plastic clips on the delivery line.

6. Raise the car.

7. Remove the front right wheel.

8. Remove the right-hand wheel arch liner.

9. Remove the front lower cover.


10. Remove the front bumper shell.

11. Suspend the radiator assembly from the radiator member with two 83 95 212 Straps .


12. Remove the right-hand air shield.

13. Remove the screw holding the front torque arm to the subframe.


14. Remove the brake hose clips and unhook the hose from the mounting on the MacPherson strut.


15. Remove the bolt from the steering swivel member. Lower the suspension arm and place a 83 95 238 Wedge between the suspension arm and anti-roll bar.

16. Tap out the drive shaft from the intermediate shaft using a brass drift and mallet. Move aside the drive shaft.


17. Place a column jack under the subframe and remove the front bolts.


18. Open the plastic clip on the subframe and remove the cooling cool clamps.


19. Lower the front edge of the subframe.

20. Remove the power steering pipe.



To fit


1. Fit the power steering pipe and cooling coil clamps.


2. Fit the pipe in the plastic clip outer hole.


3. Raise the subframe with the column jack and tighten the bolts.

Tightening torque 75 Nm +135° (55 lbf ft +135°)


4. Remove the column jack. Fit the bolt holding the front torque arm to the subframe.

Tightening torque 60 Nm +90° (44 lbf ft +90°)

5. Remove the straps.

6. Insert the drive shaft into the intermediate shaft. Make sure the lock ring clicks into place.


7. Fit the brake hose and the clip.

8. Remove the wedge and attach the ball joint to the steering swivel member with a nut and bolt. The pin must be visible above the steering swivel member before the bolt is fitted. Tighten the nut.

Warning

Press up the pin carefully.

The groove in the pin must be visible in the screw hole in the spindle housing.

If the rubber gaiter is pressed down, it will not seal properly to the swivel pin.


Tightening torque 50 Nm (37 lbf ft)

9. Fit the right-hand air shield.

10. Fit the wheel arch liner.


11. Fit the front bumper shell.

12. Fit the front, lower engine cover.


13. Fit the wheel.

14. Lower the car to the floor.

15. Fit the power steering hose to the steering gear.

Tightening torque 28 Nm (21 lbf ft)


16. Fit the power steering hose to the power steering pump using a new seal, and to the hose clip.

Tightening torque 32 Nm (24 lbf ft)


17. Remove the hose pinch-off pliers.

18. Connect the negative battery cable and fit the battery cover.

19. Fill with power steering fluid, bleed the power steering system, see Bleeding and filling the power steering system and check the sealing integrity.

20. Perform the measures necessary for after disconnecting the battery.
