Mounting the towbar, modified method

This bulletin advises that the method for fitting the towbar has been modified. This modification takes effect immediately. The installation instructions will be updated continuously with the new information.

All Saab 9-3 (9440) and 9-5

Background

There have been instances of white corrosion on the bumper rail in the area where the towbar mounting is located. A layer of protective wax must be applied to prevent this.

Parts required

09 121 548 Protective wax (sufficient for 20-30 cars)

Procedure

9-3 (9440)

Before fitting the towbar to the bumper rail, carry out the following procedure:


- Apply 09 121 548 Protective wax completely across the surfaces where the towbar and the reinforcement plates will be located and a further >10 cm in all directions in accordance with the marking in the illustration. Applies to both sides of the bumper rail.



After fitting the towbar to the bumper rail, carry out the following procedure:


- Apply 09 121 548 Protective wax around the contact surfaces of the towbar and reinforcement plates with the bumper rail, so that the joints are sealed in accordance with the marking in the illustration. Applies to both sides of the bumper rail.

Before fitting the towbar to the bumper rail, carry out the following procedure:


- The three screws that are designed for fitting the towbar to the bumper rail must be fitted and tightened in the bumper rail's holes. Apply 09 121 548 Protective wax completely across the surface where the towbar will be located and a further >10 cm in all directions in accordance with the marking in the illustration. Remove the screws and fit the towbar unit to the bumper.



After fitting the towbar to the bumper rail, carry out the following procedure:


- Apply 09 121 548 Protective wax around the towbar's contact surface with the bumper rail so that the joint is sealed.
