Water leaks in rear doors
|
Saab 9-3 SportWagon.
Customer complaints on wet rear seat cushion and/or water drops hanging
from the door opening seal.
Water leak is due to that the seal takes shortcuts in the upper corners
of the door opening. These shortcuts was caused by incorrect assembly equipment
but it can also appear after manual assembly of the seal.
There might be small water stains on the rear seat cushion even though
the seal is correctly assembled. We might have water "standing" between outer
and inner seals that falls down on the rear seat when the rear door is opened.
This can happen if the car has been parked for a while in heavy rain or if
it has just been coming out from a car wash or has been washed with high pressure.
1.
|
Start with assembling the replaced/repositioned seal in the three
corners marked with white arrows in the first two pictures.
|
2.
|
Between the upper corners there shall be a surplus seal length
of approximately 30 - 50 mm. (see pic. 2 for a curve that will give a good
length).
|
3.
|
Press down the seal all the way around the door opening.
|
4.
|
Make sure that the headlining, B-pillar trim and C-pillar trim
edges goes into the seal groove (see pic. 3). If this is done incorrectly
it will influence the efficiency of the seal and it can also give a gap/hole
where the trims meet the headlining which leads to bad appearance.
Note
|
It is very important that the seal does not shortcut the corners (see
pic. 4).
