Door Ajar Indicator Description and Operation
Door Ajar Indicator System Components
The door ajar indicator system consists of the following components:
•
Body Control Module (BCM)
•
Instrument Panel Cluster
•
Passenger window switch
•
Left rear window switch
•
Right rear window switch
The driver side window motor supplies a 12 volt signal to the door ajar switch within the door latch. When the driver door is open, the door ajar switch closes and pulls the 12 volt signal down to low level. When the driver's side window lift motor identifies the drop in the 12 volt signal circuit, the status is communicated to the BCM via the LIN bus. The BCM communicates with the instrument cluster via a serial data message. When the instrument cluster receives the serial data message, the driver door ajar indicator illuminates and a serial data message is also transmitted to the radio to activate the door ajar acoustic signal when the vehicle speed exceeds 8 km/h (5 mph).
The passenger window motor, the left rear window and right rear window switches each supplies a 12 volt signal to their respective door ajar switch within the door latch. When a door opens, the door ajar switch closes and pulls the 12 volt signal down to low level. When the passenger side window lift motor, the left rear window or right rear window switches identify the drop in the 12 volt signal circuit, the status is communicated to the BCM via the LIN bus. The BCM communicates with the instrument cluster via a serial data message. When the instrument cluster receives the serial data message, the applicable door ajar indicator illuminates and a serial data message is also transmitted to the radio to activate the door ajar acoustic signal when the vehicle speed exceeds 8 km/h (5 mph).
