Passive Keyless Entry System Description and Operation
Passive keyless entry allows entry into the a locked car without having to press any button on the transmitter for keyless opening. You just have to have the transmitter with you. The system for passive entry and start using low frequency antennas in several places in the car to determine the position of the transmitter. To unlock a door or tailgate passively, you must have a programmed transmitter in your pocket, purse or briefcase. When you pull the door handle or press the tailgate pressure plate the low frequency antenna sends out a request to the transmitter for keyless opening. On account of the low frequency the communication distance is limited. The antenna sends out a request within a distance of approximately 1 meter. The transmitter must be within this distance to be able to receive the request. The transmitter receives the request and sends the response in the form of an RF-message, which is received by the door lock receiver's remote control. If the answer is correct, door or tailgate is unlocked.
For customer convenience, the passive keyless entry system will alert the driver that the transmitter has been left in the car after you get out with three beeps of the horn. This feature can be disabled via personal settings. If the transmitter is left in the car after locking the central locking button, then the driver's door will remain unlocked to prevent the transmitter being locked in the vehicle.
Passive entry allows you to operate the following features:
•
Passive door unlock/unlatch and lock
•
Passive liftgate release
•
Illuminated interior lamps
•
Key In Vehicle Reminder
Only unlocking the driver's door
If the function is enabled in the Personal Settings, go to the driver's door with a valid transmitter for keyless entry and pull the handle. The following functions are performed:
•
Unlocking and opening of only the driver's door
•
Disengaging the CTD system (some models)
•
Deactivation of the CTD system, when in alarm mode,
Walk up to one of the passenger doors, front/rear or, if the function is activated in the Personal Settings, the driver's door, with a valid transmitter for keyless entry. The following functions are performed:
•
Unlocking of all doors when each door handle is operated
•
Only opening of the door whose handle is operated
•
Disengaging the CTD system (some models)
•
Deactivation of the CTD system, when in alarm mode,
Get out of the vehicle (with the ignition OFF) with the transmitter for keyless entry to automatically perform the following functions (some models)
•
Locking, with delay, of all doors
•
Exterior lights flash, if the feature is enabled in Personal Settings
•
Horn sounds, if the feature is enabled in Personal Settings
•
The CTD system is engaged
When all doors are closed, they can also be locked from the outside by touching the lock sensor on the front door handles while carrying a valid transmitter for keyless entry. To save battery charging, this feature is only active for a few minutes after the doors have been closed.
If more than one transmitter for keyless entry is inside the vehicle and the system detects that one or more transmitters have been left behind in the vehicle after locking, then any forgotten transmitters will be temporarily deactivated until the following happens:
•
A button is pressed on the deactivated transmitter (only activates the transmitter whose button is pressed)
•
Passive unlocking of the vehicle
Unlocking of the boot lid
Walk up to the rear compartment with a valid transmitter for keyless entry. Press the pad to unlock the rear compartment to open the tailgate/door.
Provided that the vehicle has no rear compartment antenna, then a transmitter for keyless entry that has been left in the vehicle will continue to permit opening of the boot lid/tailgate. This function prevents a customer locking the transmitter in the rear compartment.
If the vehicle has a rear compartment antenna, then any forgotten transmitters will be deactivated when the vehicle is locked.
