Power Seat Adjuster Mechanical Diagnosis


Condition Possible Cause Correction
Horizontal Operation of Seat Not Smooth but Jerky-Apparent Hard Operation
Check for debris under seat in track.

The adjuster horizontal actuator is damaged.



Remove debris.

Replace the adjuster assembly.


Horizontal Chuck or Looseness
The horizontal actuator is improperly adjusted to the rack.

The top plate subassembly is loose.

Drive screw for adjuster is worn.



Replace the adjuster assembly.

Replace the adjuster assembly.

Replace the adjuster assembly.


One Adjuster Will Not Operate Horizontally
The horizontal drive cable is disconnected or damaged.

The horizontal actuator is inoperative.



Inspect the drive cables, they must be straight to be engaged. Replace if necessary.

Replace the adjuster assembly.


One Adjuster Will not Operate Vertically
The vertical drive cable is disconnected or damaged.

The vertical actuator subassembly is inoperative.



Inspect the vertical drive cables, replace if damaged.

Replace the adjuster assembly.


Both Adjusters Will Not Operate Horizontally and/or Vertically
The actuator is damaged or inoperative.

The wiring harness is damaged.



Replace the adjuster assembly

Replace the wiring harness.


Vertical Chuck or Looseness The vertical actuator is inoperative. Replace the adjuster assembly.
