Cars affected

All Saab 9-5 M1998.

Background

Some additions have been made to the pre-delivery service programme after Service Manual group 1 Service was printed.

Materials

Cover for battery (in the luggage compartment)

Spacer rings for the rear number plate (in a plastic bag in the glove box)

Labels for the remote control unit (in a plastic bag in the centre console)

Anti-theft alarm labels (in a plastic bag in the centre control)

Passenger airbag warning label (in a plastic bag in the centre console)

Measure

The following points have been added and should be carried out in connection with pre-delivery service:


1. Check battery voltage as in the programme for acceptance inspection and in-storage car care, and SI 311-1773.

2. Fit the cover over the battery. The edges of the cover must fit round the outside of the battery tray.

3. Fit fuse 5 in the dashboard's main fuse board (in the end of the dashboard beside the driver's door).

4. Program the TWICE control module function “Transit mode” to “No” as follows:

4.a. Connect the Tech 2 diagnostic tool to the data link connector under the steering wheel.

4.b. Turn the ignition switch to ON and establish communication with the TWICE control module.

4.c. Select menu “Programming”.

4.d. Select function “Transit mode”.

4.e. Select “No”.

4.f. Clear all diagnostic trouble codes in the TWICE control module.

4.g. Discontinue communication with the TWICE control module.

5. Clear all diagnostic trouble codes in all the car's control modules.

6. End communication, turn the ignition switch to OFF and remove the diagnostic tool.

7. When mounting the rear number plate, the spacer rings should be fitted between it and the boot lid ( not PA market ).

8. The correct labels should be affixed to the remote control units. Select the right label for the market concerned and affix it in the recess on the side of the remote control unit.


9. Affix the anti-theft alarm labels as follows

10. On cars for the Sweden and Finland markets fitted with a passenger airbag, a round warning label prohibiting the installation of a child safety seat on the front seat should be affixed as described in SI 850-1757.




Amendment of tightening torque

The incorrect tightening torque has been given for the suspension struts' upper retaining bolts (front assembly).

The correct torque is 18 Nm (13 lbf ft).
