Checking fuel pump capacity
Warning
Removing the fuel pressure regulator entails working on the car's fuel system. The following points must therefore be observed in connection with the procedure:
•
Make provisions for good ventilation! If approved ventilation equipment for extracting fuel vapour is available, it must be used.
•
Use protective gloves! Prolonged exposure to fuel can cause skin irritation.
•
Keep a class BE fire extinguisher at the ready! Watch out for sparks when breaking circuits, short-circuiting, etc.
•
Smoking is absolutely forbidden.
•
Use protective goggles.
1.
Remove the engine cover.
2.
Remove fuse no. 19 while the engine is running. Turn off the ignition once the engine has stopped. Refit fuse 19.
3.
Detach the return line from the fuel rail. Use the special tool (part no. 83 95 261). Dismantle the rubber seal on the quick-release coupling with a pair of flat nose pliers.
4.
Connect the adapter with hose, special tool (part no. 83 94 918), to the fuel rail return. Place the end of the hose into a receptacle.
5.
Ignition in position ON. Activate “Fuel Pump Flow Test” with the diagnostic tool.
The pump should deliver at least 700 ml fuel to the receptacle in 30s.
6.
Remove the gauge equipment.
7.
Reconnect the return line to the fuel rail.
8.
Clear diagnostic trouble codes.
9.
Start the engine and check for possible fuel leaks.
Important
When working with the quick-release couplings on the fuel lines, great care must be taken not to damage the sealing surface on the male part. If it is very soiled, the male should be cleaned before disconnecting. If necessary, clean the sealing surface also after disconnecting. Use a soft cloth. Lubricate the male before connecting it.
