Checking the fuel pressure regulator

Checking the fuel pressure regulator

Warning

Removing the fuel pressure regulator entails working on the car's fuel system. The following points must therefore be observed in connection with the procedure:

Make provisions for good ventilation! If approved ventilation equipment for extracting fuel vapour is available, it must be used.

Use protective gloves! Prolonged exposure to fuel can cause skin irritation.

Keep a class BE fire extinguisher at the ready! Watch out for sparks when breaking circuits, short-circuiting, etc.

Smoking is absolutely forbidden.

Use protective goggles.

1. Remove the valve cap. Connect the pressure gauge equipment, special tool (part no. 83 93 852), and special tool (part no. 83 94 744) with pressure gauge, special tool (part no. 83 93 852) with the “safety on” to the fuel rail. Put the “safety off” on the tool.

2. Detach the vacuum hose from the pressure regulator and connect the pressure/vacuum pump, special tool (part no. 30 14 883), and the pressure gauge, special tool (part no. 83 93 514).

3. Activate the fuel pump with the diagnostic tool.

4. Check the value at atmospheric pressure. The value should be 3 bar (43 psi).

System pressure

bar (psi)

3.0 (43)

5. Increase the vacuum in the pressure regulator with the pressure/vacuum pump. The system pressure should drop with the same amount as the reading on the pressure gauge.

6. Pump up the pressure in the pressure regulator with the vacuum pump. The system pressure should now rise with the same amount as the reading on the pressure gauge. Disconnect the tool and reconnect the vacuum hose.
