Injectors

Warning

Removing the fuel pressure regulator entails working on the car's fuel system. The following points must therefore be observed in connection with the procedure:

Make provisions for good ventilation! If approved ventilation equipment for extracting fuel vapour is available, it must be used.

Use protective gloves! Prolonged exposure to fuel can cause skin irritation.

Keep a class BE fire extinguisher at the ready! Watch out for sparks when breaking circuits, short-circuiting, etc.

Smoking is absolutely forbidden.

Use protective goggles.

Important

Thorough cleanliness must be observed when working with the fuel rail and injectors. Blow clean the valves, fuel rail and intake manifold with compressed air.

To remove

1. Remove fuse no. 19 while the engine is running.

2. Turn off the ignition once the engine has stopped. Refit the fuse.

3. Remove the cover over the pedal arm on the throttle body.

4. Detach the hose to the crankcase ventilation.

5. Remove the dipstick with filler pipe end (2 screws) and plug the pipe.

6. Detach the accelerator pedal cable with holder from the throttle body pedal arm and bend it to one side.

7. Loosen the turbo delivery pipe retaining bolt in the cylinder head.

8. Undo the hose clamps and bend up the hose elbow.

9. Loosen the top and bottom screws on the cable holder.

10. Undo the rear screw completely.

11. Lift up the cable holder and bend it backwards.

12. Unplug the following connectors: ignition discharge module, injectors, manifold absolute pressure sensor, mass air flow sensor and turbo pressure sensor.

13. Disconnect the cables and move them out of the way.

Important

Secure each injector clip with a narrow cable tie. Make sure it is positioned correctly and tighten it. Otherwise, the injectors may come loose from the fuel rail during the flow test.

14. Blow clean around the injectors with compressed air.

15. Undo the retaining bolts on the rail.

16. Detach the pressure regulator vacuum hose.

17. Carefully prise off the rail with 2 crowbars or similar tools.

18. Carefully lift up and away the rail.

19. Plug the nozzle holes.

To fit

Note

Apply acidic-free vaseline on the O-rings to facilitate fitting.

1. Fit new O-rings on the injectors where necessary. Remove the plugs from the injector holes and fit the fuel rail with the injectors.

Tightening torque: 8 Nm (5.9 lbf ft)

2. Fit the pressure regulator vacuum hose.

3. Fit the two retaining bolts on the rail.

4. Fit the cables to the fuel rail.

5. Plug in the following connectors: ignition discharge module, injectors, manifold absolute pressure sensor, mass air flow sensor and turbo pressure sensor.

Important

Make sure the right connector is plugged into the right valve, the cables are marked. Spray all the connectors with Kontakt 61 (part no. 30 04 520) before plugging in them.

6. Fit the cable holder.

7. Screw in the rear screw.

8. Tighten the front screw.

9. Connect the hose and fit the hose clamps.

10. Tighten the retaining bolt for the turbo delivery pipe in the cylinder head.

11. Attach the accelerator pedal cable to the pedal arm on the throttle body and tighten the three screws. Adjust the cable if necessary.

12. Remove the plug and fit the dipstick with filler pipe end and the cover over the pedal arm on the throttle body.

13. Connect the crankcase ventilation hose.

14. Start the engine and conduct an integrity check.

15. Fit the engine cover.
