To remove |
1. |
Turn the ignition to position OFF.
|
2. |
Remove the engine cover.
|
3. |
Loosen the cap on the expansion tank to release any pressure and then tighten it again.
|
4. |
Remove the cover over the pedal arm on the throttle body.
|
5. |
Pinch together the 2 coolant hoses to the throttle body.
|
6. |
Detach the hose for the bypass valve and the two preheating hoses.
|
7. |
Detach the lower vacuum slang.
|
8. |
Undo the retaining bolt on the turbo delivery pipe in the cylinder head.
|
9. |
Undo the hose clamp and carefully tilt up the turbo delivery pipe.
|
10. |
Detach the accelerator pedal cable from the pedal arm on the throttle body.
|
11. |
Lift away the rubber seal and unplug the limp-home solenoid connector.
|
12. |
Unplug the 10-pin connector on the throttle body.
|
13. |
Undo the 3 retaining bolts on the throttle body.
|
14. |
Lift up the throttle body and detach the hose under the limp-home solenoid.

To fit |
1. |
Position the throttle body and screw it on with the 3 retaining bolts. Fit a new seal if necessary and apply a thin layer of vaseline (part no. 30 20 271) to it.

2. |
Fit the hose under the limp-home solenoid and mount the clip.
|
3. |
Tighten the 3 retaining bolts on the throttle body.
|
4. |
Spray the 10-pin connector to the throttle body with Kontakt 61 (part no. 30 04 520) and plug it in.

5. |
Spray the limp-home solenoid connector with Kontakt 61 (part no. 30 04 520). Plug in the connector and mount the rubber seal.

6. |
Attach the accelerator pedal cable to the pedal arm on the throttle body.
|
7. |
Fit the lower vacuum hose.
|
8. |
Fit the hose for the bypass valve and the two preheating hoses.
|
9. |
Remove the clamps on the two coolant hoses to the throttle body.
|
10. |
Fit the cover over the pedal arm on the throttle body.
|
11. |
Start the engine and make sure all the connections are tight. Top up with more coolant as necessary.
|
12. |
Refit the engine cover.
Tightening torque 10 Nm (7.4 lbf ft). |
Important | ||
The limp-home solenoid will be activated when the ignition is turned on. The mechanism must therefore be reset after turning on the ignition as described in “Resetting a tripped limp-home solenoid”. |
