Diagnostic status

Current information and history of diagnostics that have dependents.

Diagnostic status Description Use
Global Data

Overall data used for fault handling.

Training. The data shown here determines the following: 1. If diagnostics are to be run at all. 2. When CHECK ENGINE is to be turned on or off. 3. When to clear the diagnostic trouble code and its Freeze Frame. See section: "Fault handling" for more information.

Pxxx

This shows whether the diagnosis is complete and if it has reported a fault or is OK. A fault can be seen directly, without having to wait for dependents, which must be OK before the diagnostic trouble code can be read. Test readings and limits for the last 5 diagnosis instances are also displayed.

The final check in certain diagnostic procedures instructs the user to select the current diagnostic trouble code + "ENTER". Then, the criteria for the diagnosis must be fulfilled as described in the fault diagnosis. The message "Not Ready" will then change to "OK" or a DTC number. The fact that a DTC number is displayed does not mean that the diagnostic trouble code can be read in the conventional way. All the dependents for the current diagnosis must be OK first. Freeze Frame data, however, is stored when the code is displayed here. Test readings and limits from the last 5 diagnostic instances are also displayed. The test readings can be used to see if a limit is being approached. Note that each diagnosis can supply up to three different test readings.

Freeze Frame

Freeze Frame Description Use

This shows the data that is frozen when the fault criteria for a certain diagnosis have been fulfilled. The data is accessible only when all the dependents are OK and the diagnostic trouble code has been generated.

The final check in certain diagnostic procedures instructs the user to drive the car under the same load and engine speed conditions as when the fault occurred. In this way, it can be established whether the fault has been rectified. See the diagnostic tool help documents for more information.
