If a safety-related fault occurs in the throttle control, the throttle body will go into limp-home mode and the CHECK ENGINE lamp will go on immediately. The limp-home solenoid is then activated each time the ignition is turned on. The fault will not rectify itself and the car must be repaired at a workshop.
When the fault has been rectified, first clear the diagnostic trouble code and then reset the limp-home mechanism.
