When fault criteria are fulfilled and any dependents are OK, a diagnostic trouble code will be generated.
For the diagnostic trouble code to be cleared without any further measures being taken requires 1 driving cycle with OK report without the fault occurring again. The CHECK ENGINE lamp will go on if the fault occurs during the next driving cycle.
For the CHECK ENGINE lamp to go out without further measures being taken requires 3 consecutive driving cycles without the fault occurring again.
For the diagnostic trouble code to be cleared requires in addition 40 fault-free warming-up cycles.
