Fault symptoms

The fuel gauge shows empty.

Fuel level indicator lamp is on.

Some of the trip computer's functions are affected.

Condition

Open circuit/Short circuit Ground/Shorting to B+ on one of the pins connected to the tank sensor.

Diagnostic help

A readout of current tank information can be obtained using the diagnostic tool.

The fuel gauge can also be activated with the diagnostic instrument.

The value is not sent to the bus when activated.

Check the wiring harness

Jiggle the leads and in-line connectors at various points and in different directions to detect any intermittent breaks or short circuits in the wiring. Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic instrument while carrying out this check.
