Note
|
If the car is equipped with a radio other than a genuine Saab radio, check that the customer has the radio code before commencing work.
|
1.
|
Unplug the negative battery cable.
|
2.
|
Remove the knee shield under the glove box.
|

|
Remove the centre console.
|
6.
|
Remove the switches and mark the connectors.
|
7.
|
Remove the radio and radio compartment.
|
10.
|
Straighten the wheels and remove the steering wheel. Secure the coil spring with a cable tie.
|
11.
|
Remove the steering column cover.
|
12.
|
Remove the steering wheel switches.
|
13.
|
Remove the instrument plate.
|
14.
|
Remove the cover from the steering column.
|
15.
|
Remove the main instrument unit.
|
16.
|
Unplug the data link connector.
|
17.
|
Remove the knee shield under the steering wheel.
|
18.
|
Unplug the main dashboard fuse box.
|
19.
|
Remove the LH scuff plate and metal carpet protector by the LH A-pillar.
|
20.
|
Remove the connector bracket below the LH A-pillar.
|
21.
|
Remove the gear lever housing.
|
22.
|
Lay the replacement harness along the existing harness starting from the airbag control module.
|
23.
|
Lay the replacement harness under the existing harness by the gear lever housing. Fit a 90mm long chafing guard 82 78 558 on the gear lever housing where the replacement harness runs under the gear lever housing.
|
24.
|
Remove the old airbag control module and fit the new one.
|
25.
|
If the VIN is lower than X3027793 and has been dealt with according to SI 850-2077, sleeves 10, 11, 13 and 14 must be extracted from the connector in the airbag control module spare parts kit. Proceed to step 27 on other cars.
|
26.
|
Extract sleeves 10, 11, 13 and 14 from the airbag control module connector on the existing wiring harness and insert the white cable terminals into pins 10 and 11, and the orange ones into replacement harness connector pins 13 and 14.
|
27.
|
Cars with OnStar:
Extract sleeve 39 from the airbag control module connector in the replacement harness. Proceed to step 30.
|
28.
|
Cars without OnStar:
Disconnect the ground cable from grounding point G4 on the centre tunnel running from the grounding point to the airbag control module connector in the existing harness.
|
29.
|
Connect the ground cable in the replacement harness to grounding point G4.
Tightening torque: 9.5 Nm (7 lbf ft)
|
30.
|
Extract sleeves 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13 and 14 from the 16-pin female connector behind the gear lever housing.
|
31.
|
Insert the following cables from the replacement harness.
sleeve 5: PK
sleeve 6: GY
sleeve 7: BN
sleeve 8: VT
sleeve 11: BU/GN
sleeve 12: YE/GN
sleeve 13: BU/OG
sleeve 14: BN/OG
|
32.
|
Secure the replacement harness with cable ties under the gear lever housing along the existing wiring harness and make sure no risk for chafing exists.
|
33.
|
Fit the gear lever housing.
|
34.
|
LHD:
Secure the replacement harness with a cable tie in the existing support leg hole by the radio.
RHD:
Secure the harness to the existing harness by the radio.
|
35.
|
Cars without OnStar:
Insulate the white cable at the radio and secure it to the wiring harness with adhesive tape.
Cars with OnStar:
Plug the two-pin connector to the OnStar harness instead of the two-pin connector on the existing wiring harness.
|
36.
|
Branch the harness along the existing harness in the uppermost space under the dashboard shell and secure it with a cable tie.
|
37.
|
Cars without passenger airbag:
proceed to step 40.
Cars with passenger airbag:
secure the cable to the passenger airbag with cable ties.
|
38.
|
Unplug the connector on the existing wiring harness and cut off the cable. Insulate with adhesive tape.
|
39.
|
Cars with passenger airbag:
Plug the connector on the replacement harness to the airbag.
Cars with airbag disabled
: Plug the connector to the resistor.
Make sure there is no risk for cable chafing. Proceed to step 41.
|
40.
|
Excess wiring on cars without passenger airbag must be secured to the harness in front of the radio.
|
41.
|
Lay the replacement harness along the existing harness in the uppermost space under the panel shell and secure it at the branch to the main instrument unit.
|
42.
|
Run the replacement harness cable for the main instrument unit along the existing wiring harness. Secure with cable ties.
|
43.
|
Unplug the 20-pin main instrument unit connector. Extract sleeve 1 and secure the cable to the existing harness with adhesive tape.
|
44.
|
Insert the replacement harness cable into sleeve 1. Secure the cable along the existing harness and make sure there is no risk for chafing.
|
45.
|
LHD:
Lay the replacement harness along the existing harness towards the LH A-pillar and secure with a cable tie around the spiral protective hose by the DICE control module.
RHD:
Lay the replacement harness and secure it along the existing harness towards the LH A-pillar.
|
46.
|
Remove fuse 28 from the main fuse box in the dashboard and extract the red/blue cable. Insulate and secure it to the existing harness.
|
47.
|
Insert the replacement harness cable and refit the fuse.
|
48.
|
Run the replacement harness to the steering wheel. Secure it so that the steering wheel can be adjusted without difficulty.
|
49.
|
Unplug the airbag connector from the coil spring and secure it to the existing harness. Plug in the replacement harness connector.
|
50.
|
Pull the green cable down to the data link connector. Secure the cable.
|
51.
|
Extract the green cable from pin 8 on the data link connector and insert the replacement harness cable.
|
52.
|
Run the remaining cables along the existing wiring harness down to the connector bracket at the LH A-pillar.
|
53.
|
Unplug the white and green connectors.
|
54.
|
Extract sleeve 19 from the white female connector. Insulate the sleeve and secure it to the existing harness with adhesive tape.
|
55.
|
Insert the double green cable into position 19.
|
56.
|
Extract sleeves 45 (BN/YE), 46 (RD/YE), 47 (BU/GN) and 48 (YE/BU) from the green female connector.
|
57.
|
Insulate the cables and secure them to the existing harness with adhesive tape.
|
58.
|
Insert the replacement harness cables:
sleeve 45: BN/YE
sleeve 46: RD/YE
sleeve 47: BU/GN
sleeve 48: YE/BU
|
59.
|
Secure all cables. Check that no risk for chafing exists.
|
60.
|
Secure the cable stems to the corresponding connector with new cable ties.
|
61.
|
Link the white and green connectors and fit the connector bracket.
|
62.
|
Fit the LH scuff plate and metal carpet protector by the LH A-pillar.
|
63.
|
Fit the main fuse box into the dashboard.
|
64.
|
Fit the knee shield under the steering wheel.
|
65.
|
Fit the data link connector.
|
66.
|
Fit the main instrument unit.
|
67.
|
Fit the cover around the steering column.
|
68.
|
Fit the instrument plate.
|
69.
|
Fit the steering wheel switches.
|
70.
|
Fit the steering column cover.
|
71.
|
Fit the steering wheel.
|
73.
|
Fit the ACC or manual control panel.
|
74.
|
Fit the radio and radio compartment.
|
76.
|
Fit the centre console.
|
79.
|
Fit the knee shield under the glove box.
|
80.
|
Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
|
81.
|
Start the engine and make sure the airbag lamp does not come on.
|
82.
|
Use Tech2 to make sure no diagnostic trouble codes are generated.
|
83.
|
Set the clock and programme the radio code where applicable.
